What is Technopark?

Technopark; Universities/research institutions and industrial organizations continue their research, development, and innovation studies in the same environment; they transfer information and technology among each other; It is an organized research and business development ecosystem that integrates academic, economic, and social structure.

According to the definition of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP), Technopark; the organization is managed by specialized professionals, whose main aim is to increase the wealth of its community by promoting the culture of innovation and the competitiveness of its associated businesses and knowledge-based institutions.
To enable these goals to be met, a Science Park stimulates and manages the flow of knowledge and technology amongst universities, R&D institutions, companies, and markets; it facilitates the creation and growth of innovation-based companies through incubation and spin-off processes; and provides other value-added services together with high-quality space and facilities.

What is a Technology Development Zone according to Law No. 4691?

Technology Development Zones Law No. 4691 on the establishment of technology development zones in Turkey was enacted by being published in the Official Gazette on 26/06/2001. Technoparks; It aims to increase the wealth of the society by supporting the innovation and competitiveness culture of the knowledge-based companies within its body.

Technology Development Zone is a place where companies using advanced technology or oriented towards new technologies produce or develop technology or software by making use of the facilities of a certain university or high technology institute or R&D center or institute, and turn a technological invention into a commercial product, method or service. It represents a technopark within or near the same university, high technology institute, R&D center, or institute area, in which they operate to transform and contribute to the development of the region in this way.

The purpose of Technology Development Zones is to produce technological knowledge, develop innovations in products and production methods, increase product quality or standard, increase productivity, to increase production, in order to ensure the cooperation of universities, research institutions, organizations, and production sectors, in order to make the country's industry internationally competitive and export-oriented. To reduce costs, commercialize technological knowledge, support technology-intensive production, and entrepreneurship, adapt small and medium-sized enterprises to new and advanced technologies, to create investment opportunities in technology-intensive areas by taking into account the decisions of the Supreme Council of Science and Technology, to create employment opportunities for researchers and qualified people. To create a technological infrastructure that will help technology transfer and accelerate the entry of foreign capital into the country that will provide high/advanced technology.

Some advantages offered to Technopark companies;

  • Exemption from personnel income tax and corporate tax until the end of 2023 for the income and corporate taxpayers operating in the region from software and R&D activities in the region.
  • Insurance premium support: The exemption of half of the employer's share of insurance premium calculated over the wages earned by R&D and support personnel for their work until 31 December 2023
  • VAT exemption is provided for software produced in the region
